Manipur Police today announced the arrest of an active member of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF-P) for his alleged role in extortion targeting offices and private firms in the greater Imphal area. Police made the arrest on July 4, 2025, in the Moirangkhom locality under Imphal Police Station in Imphal West district.The individual has been identified as 38-year-old Heisnam Romeo Singh, also known as Shanker, a resident of Laphupat Tera Hiyang Khong. Police reports show that Singh was actively involved in making illegal financial demands from various businesses in the region.During his arrest, officers recovered several items from Singh, including a wallet, a mobile phone, and Rs. 22,500 in cash. These items are believed to be linked to his involvement in the extortion scheme.This arrest is another step in Manipur Police's ongoing efforts to tackle the activities of insurgent groups and ensure the safety of businesses and residents in the state.
