Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Sanjay Seth reaffirmed India’s strategic alignment with Russia as he took part in the 80th Victory Day celebrations in Moscow. The annual parade, commemorating the Soviet triumph in World War II, witnessed a high-profile Indian presence, symbolizing the deep-rooted defence and diplomatic ties between the two nations.

During the two-day visit (May 8–9), Shri Seth participated in formal events, paid homage to fallen soldiers, and engaged in high-level dialogues with Russian leadership. His visit not only honored historic alliances but also paved the way for stronger future collaboration.

Meeting with President Putin: A Moment of Strategic Significance

On May 9, 2025, Raksha Rajya Mantri Sanjay Seth held a formal courtesy meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The interaction occurred shortly after the Victory Day Parade, where world leaders gathered to commemorate the Soviet Union’s historic victory in World War II.

During the exchange, Shri Seth conveyed Prime Minister Modi's warm congratulations to President Putin and acknowledged the 80th Victory Day as a landmark of resilience and sacrifice. The RRM highlighted India's gratitude for Russia’s continued support in India’s global campaigns against state-sponsored cross-border terrorism.

Defence Diplomacy: Expanding Military–Technical Cooperation

Later in the day, Shri Sanjay Seth conducted bilateral talks with Colonel General Alexander Fomin, Russia’s Deputy Defence Minister. Discussions focused on military–technical collaboration, with both sides expressing satisfaction over current projects and reaffirming commitment to deepen institutional frameworks.

India and Russia agreed to maintain regular consultations under their established mechanisms such as the India–Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military Technical Cooperation. Shri Seth emphasized the need to align with future warfare technologies, cyber resilience, and enhanced joint training between forces.

Laying the Wreath: Honoring Shared Sacrifice

At the iconic Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Shri Seth laid a ceremonial wreath in tribute to the lives lost during World War II. The gesture, observed by multiple global representatives, highlighted India's respect for historic military unity with Russia and reaffirmed its long-standing tradition of honoring global peacekeepers.

Outreach to Indian Diaspora in Moscow

As part of his Moscow itinerary, Shri Sanjay Seth engaged with prominent members of the Indian community at the Embassy of India. Addressing a gathering of professionals, students, and cultural leaders, he applauded their contributions in strengthening India–Russia ties.

The RRM noted that Indian diaspora not only serves as cultural ambassadors but also plays a vital role in promoting bilateral cooperation in areas like education, innovation, and business. He also emphasized India’s global rise and encouraged the community to participate in ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ initiatives.
